I'll start by saying that the Stag is fine without a scratch. Can't say the same for my wife or the garage door.
Our non runner (now definitely for sale) needed to be moved off site for a week so I borrowed a trailer from a local garage. I'd got the Stag nearly on with just inches to go and the winch strap gave. The wife had been turning the wheel and had the drivers door open. The door and trailer light cluster and not forgiving and she was between them. Fortunately she was thrown out of the way but very badly cut and bruised. The Stag rolled 20m back. It's got a tow bar and that took the force on hitting a brick wall but the corner took out a metal garage door.
Not sure how I could have prevented that. I'd even had a "winch blanket" on so it didn't get me and no one was behind it. I guess the strap wasn't in good condition.
So the lesson - be very wary of the condition of borrowed trailers and especially the winch which will only ever be serviced after it's failed.
Sympathy appreciated.
Chris.
