    Hood cover seal ? !

I have today received a new hood cover seal from Tony Hart. I opened the packet to find a rubber seal whose profile is totally different to the one fitted to the Stag. I cant see how it is supposed to fit and is more like the seal on the hood at the front on the header rail.

I spoke to Tony Hart who told me that this is the seal that superceded the one thatI have got and it has to be stuck in place. I tried it in place and no matter which way round it goes it leaves a gap of at least an 1/8 ".

I have tried to sketch the two seals, shown below. Is this normal or haveI got the wrong seal ?

If so where canI get the right seal ?

    Simon.

I've got the one on the left, and whilst not perfect, it works better than I think the one on the right would.

I am not sure if the original profile is available, I have had a hunt on the net and I can't find anything myself. Tony is unlikely to sell something that won't do the job though.

The one on the right looks like the hood front seal.

This sealwas discussed recently. I think someone said they had got the right seal from Brian Turner. Or it could have been Aldridge.

          Try a search.

Speak to Brian Turner as he has very definite views on this. He recently fitted a new frame and hood for me as the frame packed up completely.

He also did all the problem stuff like the tonneau seal which on mine was fitted the wrong way round and the kids had wet backsides all the time.

I have spent hours on the net searching for something like the original seal profile. Tony Hart said that the new seal is the correct one to use now and is similar to the front hood seal. The trouble is the new profile when put in place leaves a gap of at least an eighth of an inch so when it rains it will just pour into the stowage compartment and wet the back seats.

I have come across a knock on seal which should do the job. I just have to alter it slightly to fit. I will fit it and report back further.
Also who is Brian Turner and how do i contact him ?

Anyone managed to find the right seal? Just replaced the tonneau release cable etc. and seal looked rough so ordered replacement from Paddocks - doesn't look anything like the old one and I can't see it doing the job properly!

I got mine from these people on ebay, it's a spot match for the original and fits very well, they don't seem to have any on ebay at the moment but you couldstill mail them and ask if they have any available

The seal on the left IS the correct one. SOC Spares own the tool for it and they have to have a large quantity produced each time. This costs money which will not be recouped for considerable time. Rimmers have the same setup for some other seals. This system tends to make the items more expensive and as a result, certain suppliers tend to adopt a `this is a replacement item'stance, thus being able to make more profit on a more common item which they can procure more cheaply! I am sorry if this surprises StagnJag, but Tony Hart is in business to make money and that is not a crime.

If fitting this seal, do fit it as shown, ie. standing upright with the flange facing inboard. Use a contact adhesive and just coat the bottom of the gutter and the bottom face of the seal. This leaves a gap round the outer part of the gutter to allow water to run along to the downpipes at the front ends.

The seal on the right has a foot which is designed to fit into a seal retainer or channel. For example this can be used a the front rail seal on the soft top. But I dont see how this can be of any use a

for the hood well cover. I think there has been a misunderstanding with the supplier.
