A simple fix for more leg room

When I bought my car last month I knew I wanted to try to get a bit more leg room to drive. I have long legs. I looked on the Forum and found no real solutions other than different seats.

I've now done a simple fix, and I'm rather pleased with myself.

I noted the rail slid back a good cm or so beyond the last notch. Quickly whipped out the seat and I've simply created a new slot at the very limit of the travel with a drill and file. Did not have to remove the rail from the seat to do it either. Not a fiddle to do and has gained me a useful bit extra. I suspect a Dremel would be the ideal if you had one.

Hope this helps somebody else. Maybe the rail positioning is different in different cars but if your seat will slide back beyond the last slot then it is pretty easy to get a bit more room.

I have put the seat back in now but if anyone asked me nicely I can remove it again and photograph it sometime.

I asked Lotus to do something similar when I bought a new Elise a few years ago but they just fabricated a very crude bracket for the seat mountings that was a real bodge!

Sorry for the delay, I've been away and had to remove the seat again to take the photograph.

You can hopefully see where I've cut the new notch in the enclosed. Obviously you need to push the seat runner as far back as you can to decide how much more you can gain. I suspect the runners and slots may vary from car to car but the extra centimetre or so I've gained is well worth it. There is a small split pain that partly appears to restrict the rear travel, removing that gained me a smidge more too.PB021047edit.jpg

I am just 6 foot. I guess I like to drive with legs fairly straight out
