    Gutted

    This evening I am not happy.My own fault but that doesn't make it better.

    Been trying to replace my strombergs with my new Edelbrocks. As I'm at home this week I thought I'd give it a go. Following Kevin's lead, I got it all together and had problems firing up, just wouldn't hold the revs.

    After Steve (Stagdad) popped over and promptly discovered that the only bit of the instructions I had not read pointed to a big hole at the back of the carbs sucking in air that should have been plugged I was able to get things running. Perfect I thought, running better than ever, only the throttle and kickdown cable bracket to fit.

    Well, this evening, I marked it all out and got the dremel out. Bu**er, drilled out the wrong bit and now have a knackered useless bracket. My own fault, but doesn't make it any better. Feel stupid and frustrated. Measured wice, cut once but cut the wrong bl**dy side.

    Now I have to try and find another backet quickly so that I can at least get the old girl out for a few minutes at the weekend.

    Very very unhappy this evening.

    Try homebase, they have a rack i think with different ally section failing that B&Q do.

      Thanks Steve,

      I'll look in Wickes tomorrow morning. I've only got 30 minutes spare so that's my closest call. Totally gutted, was hoping to get car finished tonight.

      Not been my week.

        Where did you get the edelbrock from Tim?

        I ask because I bought one from RPI jetted for 3.5 R (supposedly), fitted and yes ran up first time, idle and tickover mixture adjusted, ran really sweet.

        Off up the road for proper test, 5 miles approx, plenty of GO when foot floored but you could feel a hesitancy on light load ( rubbish explanation I know but its a gut thing!).

        So go home and checked the plugs, nice and BLACK. So needs rejetting, So did the obvious thing, Chucked the car in the garage, swore at it and left it. (bit Basil Fawlty but........)

        Well, Edelbrock do a wicked DVD on how to set the carb up! Bought off Ebay and there it is the guy pulls it apart before your eyes. I never got into weber carbs as to jets and rods and SPRINGS! But when you see it, its Yessssssssssssss.

        Just look on the chart which is either in your instruction book or on the dvd, see which map is most applicable, then fit combination. et oila!!

          Hi Tim,

          Not one for the purists - but if you need to get something in place quickly as temporary measure and you have any oldMeccano hanging around (from our younger days ! ) you can usually fabricate something easliy out of that.

          I can remember using it to build some great linkages for a pair of DCOE's on an old Spitfire - worked better than the proper SAH jobs !

            Thanks all,

            Feel better now. Spoke to Ian at Monarch this morning and he is every bit as chatty and helpful as everyone says. On a par with Peter Howells. Anyway, he's supplying me with one of his brackets (usually as a complete set but I don't need anything else) for a good price and he'll paint it this evening and get it out 1st class post tomorrow.

            So, should be able to fit it this weekend and get going (weather permitting). Oh yes, as long as I've finished the utility room, plumbed in the new sink, fitted the taps, painted the woodwork, written next Tuesdays presentation, .................... What was that thread about how many jobs have you got on?
