I think that wire wheels look great on a stag. I understand the they will require lots and lots of cleaning. Just wondered if they are still available etc. I guess the other question is cost and where can they be sourced?
Hi Chinski
Yes you are very correct they are hard to keep clean I had some Chrome wires on my MGB GT and cursed them as they took so long to clean 5 hours when I took them off twice a year. Then I had a very sore index digit but worth doing then I used Rim wax to polish them. They looked great and set the car off as it was Tartan Red . I also used Auto Glym Custom wheel cleaner , a spray that foams up and removes the brake dust it is not acid based as most wheel cleaners are and recommended for chrome I have only seen it on line Halfords stopped selling it about two years ago . You must keep on top of the cleaning get a decent wheel cleaning brush I bought a Maquires one it was like a tapered bottle brush and was rubbish it fell to pieces . I bought a cheap small one just a loop of bristles in a handle and it is still being used . Also I used Silicon lubricant spray to help keep the dirt off as not a lot sticks to silicon, keep it well off the paint and the brakes . The best alternative would be stainless wires as some of the new chrome wheels I was told are made in India and the quality of the chrome is not as good. I love the look of wire wheels on a sports car but would not have them again because of the maintenance, they do help preserve the car as you will never take her out on a wet road for fear of messing up the wheels. You will obviously have to do a hub conversion which all adds to the cost
Good luck Derek
