auto box clunk noise

ok,
so going good with the car so far, learning alot with it.
got a list of parts to buy. starting the header tank, and electronic ignition system.

one thing ive noticed,

when I start the car, and its still cold, i.e. 20 mins of driving. putting it into 'D' or any other gear, it is very nice and smooth.

but once the car heats up a little, any gear i put it into, I can hear and feel a clunk noise. well probably less of the noise and more of the feel. If that makes sense
it this normal?

ive checked the auto oil stick, and all seems fine.

any ideas?

Probably just the tickover speed picking up as the engine warms. Mine always clunks a little from neutral into any forward or reverse gear, there is bound to be some backlash in the transmission.

If it changes ratios smoothly up and down on the move without any noises, I suspect you are fine. If perhaps suffering from a little SP (Stag Paranoia).

This subject has come up before and Wilf's answer above was the general feeling then as well. Mine has a clunk going into D or R. I checked everything was tight underneath and on the prop shaft, so I assume that is is just the sum of the backlashes being taken up and I don't worry about it. Plenty of other things on my Stag to worry about though!! My last modern car (C4 Picasso) had a right old driveline shunt when starting off and I did not worry about that either.
