    Triumph Twitch?

I've been unable to drive for the past 5 weeks following an operation and was pleased to take the Stag for a run in the sunshine today. The car has been parked in my garage for that period and I drove to Aldridge Trimmers in Wolverhampton to ask if they can help with my soft top which curls up at the back. (Another story)

I drove for about 30 miles on dual carriageway and Motorway before leaving the M54 at J3. It was negotiating the roundabout that I felt a strange feeling through the steering/suspension which also caused an effect similar to a brake binding on an oval drum. I stopped at the earliest layby and it seemed that the brakes were certainly binding as the car did not roll free. None of the brakes felt hot so I reversed the car for a few feet thinking that if a rear shoe was binding it would cause it to free. It seemed to work and I drove on thinking about the next job to be done, i.e rear brake overhaul.

During the next few miles I experienced similar problem but I had not applied the brakes as I coasted towards the next set of lights.

Everything seems to be attached with no obvious issues. When garaged the handbrake is left off. The car is a MK 2 MOD.

Have I experienced my first Triumph Twitch or can anyone suggest other problems as I compile my next "to do list"?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Steve,

That doesn't sound too much like the Stag twitch to me. Although that tends to occur during or after cornering it just flicks the back end sideway a little.

It does sound brake related and l expect once you pull the drums off it'll become apparent.

    Cheers

Could it be the diff nose extension beginning to give way and pulling on the handbrake cable?

      Just a thought.

The twitch is usually felt on cornering as Julian says, especially if you lift off the throttle/change gear which unloads the driveshaft and allows them to slip. T

Thanks for the feedback. Dave's comment is particularly scary.
A full rear end overhaul is on the cards this Winter.
Hope to see you at NEC tomorrow.

              Hi Steve,

I didn't realise you were going tomorrow - will you be on the SOC stand at 12 ? It'd be good to meet up.

              Cheers
