How much is a project worth?

Anybody seen this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3010188741...84.m1423.l2649

I don't normally monitor what's selling but as I've got one on there at the moment I spotted this one. I can't see how it can be worth anything. Wrong and incomplete engine and most "bits" removed. It'd cost a fortune to get to running. And there's complete and running cars available to drive away for reasonable money.

Or are the bids from people who'd never actually buy when they realised what's needed?

My thoughts anyway.

I expect that will go for at least 800 quid as it is tax exempt. Ooh can I hear a telephone ringing?

It's already going for more! And it doesn't have a V5 - they've misplaced it! The sort of story I'd walk away from. The only tax exempt bit is the VIN plate but you need the V5.

Anyway looks like a donor car to me - bits removed cleanly. Vandals do damage.

Blimey so it is. You could apply for a replacement V5? As to whether it is worth that money depends very much on the condition of the shell. Everything else is straight forward to obtain/replace.

The fact that the seller has not applied for a replacement V5 sounds dodgey. If you are the real owner, it is simple enough to do.

I would take that on if i was looking for a project car - getting the V5 isn't hard as well once you apply to the DVLA.

The fact that it has been vandalised and on a trailer does not bode well for the V5.

OTOH quite a few people do lose them. In the photos the bodywork does not look too terrible which will help punters go towards the price. But IMHO I reckon the auction is rigged. You only have to look at what running, half decent Stags have been going for on ebay (photos can deceive but half decent Stags going for £5-6k?). Even an MOT'd 2.5 Auto (albeit a '75) struggled to sell for £2.8k. There was an RV8 Stag which was complete a few months ago, which went for £1.1k, but that looked tattier than this car despite it having an MOT (the bodyshell was in a poor state).

I saw an auction get rigged at the weekend and it backfired on the seller. RV8 engined reasonable Stag had only one bid put on it 2 days before end. Didn't get anymore bids so sold at that.

Miraculously it reappeared as a relist the next day. Someone went to prison for "bidding up" their own auction a couple of years ago!

As always with eBay "Buyer Beware"

I don't want a project but if I did I wouldn't touch that one.

The thing is the cars is worth more than the current price its at if it was broken up and i think its good they are making decent money as it makes all out cars worth more ideally

I see Les Clark has re listed the Mk1 shell he had on eBay a week or tow ago and it looked like it had sold as well.

All interesting as to the value then. I've got a project on eBay at the moment. I wasn't expecting silly money for it but with 286 watchers I'm hopeful!

Well well - no more bids for 9 days and it "sold" at £1070.01. I couldn't possibly comment as I might make an accusation that would have to be censored.
