Any recommendations on which company to use for a HPI check. There seem to be lots of companies out there at different prices? I just want an accurate check first time around.

I used the AA, I would also get a MOT history on line, but this will only be from 2006.

I would use either Experian or HPi. Quite a few of the texting services use outdated/innacurate information.
Kevin has a great link however. This to me is invaluable and gives you an idea of how the car was cared for and whether the garage rectified the failures (the latter is quite surprising).
However, there is no substitute for checking the data that is tangible. A friend of mine once bought a cheap car. OK, the HPi he eventually did (for other reasons;read on) showed that his car was once a CAT D many years ago, but not the fact that the shell was from a car that should have been scrapped many moons ago. It is an easy enough mistake to make (I know that most people will not check this data). It could quite easily have not have been a CAT D, but simply a mangled shell which provided a willing identity for a seemingly scrapped car.
