    quarter lights

    Hi Guys,
Another problem i'm tasked to solve-none of the door quarter lights work-both the knobs have the tangs broken off.removed P/s side door panel and found what appeared to be the mechanism siezed up removed this but it operates ok but the shaft going through the frame to the quarterlight siezed up although the quarter light itself can be pushed open freely-removed quarterlight glass and found the top of the operating spindle sheared off in the glass frame.hmmm.managed to free/remove the operating shaft from the door but am puzzled how to re-attach to the glass frame as it appears the broken bit is still in the frame. The drivers side is just very stiff siezed up so hopefully can free this.
Any one else come across this-sorted it.
    thanks
    Rob.

I had no problem with the quarter light itself but the tangs were broken off one of the knobs. I made a new ally inner, drilled out the old one and glued the new one in. If you are interested Ill have another look and see exactly how I did it and let you know.

On mine the wheel boxes were quite stiff but it didn't look at all easy to dismantle them (or at least in a way that might make it possible to reassemble them) so I trickled spray grease in between the joins of the two half of the pressings and they are now substantially more free. Until I did that the passenger one kept snapping the casting. Worth doing if yours are a bit stiff too (as well as sorting the seized hinge).

when i replace mine, i bought a new quarter light frame ,the glass fits the frame with a rubber seal round to hold the glass in place,( its a tight fit ) to fit the quarter light to the main door frame, there two small screws on the outside edge of the door frame, and you need to undo one bolt the holds the spindle to the frame ,when you remove the quarter light opening mech your see the spindle and bolt that i mean, your need to remove the whole of the door frame from the door to get excess

            thanks dave

Well quite pleased with myself today-sorted the quarterlights. The drivers one was the wheel box very tight, freed up with loads of wd40 then 3 in 1 oil and is now fine.
The passenger side (which as i said the operating rod was sheared off at the window) is now working although only opens part way-what i have done is gingerly drill into the broken bit in the frame and make a slot-about 3/8" deep then fashion a piece of metal about an inch long (making it a tight fit in the slot) the gently tapped it in.After getting the spindle to move freely in the door i cut a slot in it deep enough to push onto the piece protuding from the window.Re assembled and it now opens and closes ok although only part way but can live with that-not quite got the slot in the correct place to allow full opening but well chuffed.I was more concerned about being able to just push the window open.

I'd still get some spray grease in as the mechanism is sure to get water in it from what runs down inside the door and 3 in one will wash away fairly quickly. Spray grease thickens when the solvent evaporates and is likely to stay around substantially longer.

                      Hi All,

Anybody still looking at this issue. I have had a similar problem and have now fixed the pivot pin with the help of an amateur engineer who made a new tang and then fixed it to the pin via a slot and grub screw looks fine.

My problem is how to get the pin back through the loop, it was originally rusted in and I had to knock it out with a punch, I have cleaned up the pin and the loop but it still wont go through and I cannot see in the manuals etc. how to remove this loop. so that I can adjust it or replace it.

Anyone able to suggest a solution.
