What Battery do I buy ?

    Hi

After 10 years of ownership of my Stag, and each winter wondering if the battery will give out, it has kept going and amazed me until this year when it finally has died.

What battery do I buy ? Do I buy a modern car equivalent based on physical size, or do I need a specific '1970's' battery (If there is such a thing ! )

    Cheers

Look for Group Size 34 batteries

I would look for one with an integral handle. As for whether you should look for a more period looking battery. If you enter the car in concourse events then yes, otherwise get a battery that is designed for your needs; Hot Climate, Cold Climate, heavy accessory loads such as tablets, radar, gps, amps.

If you do a search on here there is a highly recommended Bosch or Varta that will sort you out. (Code 69 IIRC)

      I'm on a damn tablet on which I can't post a link I'm afraid.

      Cheers

          Hi Malc,

One thing to watch for, apart from size, is that you get a 'flat top' rather than a 'T top'. The restraining bar fits better.

You could also consider reversing the terminals so that the +ve one isn't close to the power steering pump pulley.

There has been a lot of battery discussion on here, so the search facility will pull up plenty of reading, and opinion.

I am very pleased with a Bosch on mine - I think the number is 4021 but check earlier posts and you will find it. Fits perfectly and spins the engine over on the coldest of mornings.

I have got a bosch HSB013 from Halfords in mine. It has been perfectly fine for the 12 months it has been in the car so far.

                Regards

Fitted a YUASA type 072 in September 2009, still going strong. YUASA is O.E for many Japanese Vehicle and Motor Cycle manufactures. My long term Friend (over 35 years) who owns a large Motor Factors swears by them, and is the only make he carries as a Stock item.

I know what I would go for if I need another in the future.

                      Malc,

Earlier this year I bought a Technopart 031ZS from A1 Motorspares. Plenty of power, fits nicely and is black so looks more 'period' than some of the more garish ones around these days. Less than £70 and 3 years guarantee.

                        Malc,

I have a perfect Halfords HB072 which you can have for £35 if you want it - it is sitting unused in my garage and only replaced when I thought it was knackered but transpired was an earthing problem.
I'm in Navetstock as you probably guessed so not far to travel give me a call o 0773 878 4570 if you are interested

                        Cheers

                          Mike,

If you do a search on the Halfords website for Triumph Stag batteries it comes up with two options: HCB072 and HB072. The latter has been recommended here:
