    timing chains agatn

The only thing that is bothering me about this impending timing chain job is breaking the gasket joints on the sump and head gasket when removing the front cover, any tips to try and keep the sump gasket in one piece, does anybody have a technique they have used before...Thanks Steve

Once all the fixings are out try and slide a feeler gauge blade between the gasket(s) and timing cover. Or if you have an old Hacksaw blade make a small tool/knife by grinding a sharp edge on the side where the teeth would have been. you can then gently cut/tease the gasket away from the timing cover faces.

Cable tie the head gaskets to the head via the top timing cover bolt hole in the heads when fitting the timing cover - this holds the gaskets well out of the way and will allow you to get the cover almost fully home, by which time there is minimal risk to the head gasket, then cut and remove the cable ties and push the cover the rest of the way.

Thanks for that Russ good to hear from you, i read in the manual that you needed metal shims to guide the timing cover past the head gasket, yours is a much better idea, cheers Russ...Steve p.s. i think i still have your mobile number can i use it if i am in the ****
