DumDum - Whats the alternative / Equivalent?

Anyone know what an alternative to DumDum is?

    Try
    http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/ or
VAG use a product to seal the inner doors on the Golf, Audi, Skoda, Seat "Caus they leak and fill the car up!!" its very similar to this Wickes Roof and Gutter sealant, Black, code 240691. Its a Butyl Rubber sealant works well but is messy to use compared to good old Dum Dum. worth a try its about £5.50 a tube.

Btw Has anyone tried Sugru ?

I have no idea if it would work, but even if it doesn't, the history of the product makes interesting reading I reckon: http://sugru.com/story

        Cheers

Others on here have used Plumbers Mait and I'm going to use it when I reassemble the suspension.

I've never heard of Sugru before but I've bought some and will see what it can do. Looks a little expensive in small quantities but if it does the job!

Try a polyurathane mastic (Sikafix or the like) not only seals but sticks stays flexible has many uses

                hi
in the TR world the sealer recommended is Mirka windscreen sealer , that's for the join between wings and body, its black non setting , just like Dum Dum.

                    Hi Len,

Sorry I disagree. I visit the TR world also and Indasa is the windscreen sealer of choice which is also used in all the applications where a non setting compound is used, wing sealing also. Unlike Sikaflex which cause a real problem when/if you ever try to remove it, the Indasa is a non reactive relatively easy to break sealer. This also carries the recommendation of some of the TR restorers who do it for a living.
I've never heard of "Mirka" and having done a search can't find any info about any sealer they may sell, can only find abrasives !

After a bit of a search for a non-hardening sealer I found this, which I used for my windscreen fitting:

                      3M 08509

                      The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

                        Plenty of choices here? http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/butyl-sealant

There use to one called "Glasticord" as well but it looks like that has suffered the same fate as Dum Dum and has been deemed hazardous for mere mortals to use by the EU

To avoid future heartache whichever substance you use I should try and avoid any Silicone based product, lots of paint shops don't like it in their workshops to avoid contamination.

                              Hiya,

I used the Woolies stuff to seal my Stag heater when I changed the matrix. It seemed to do the job, but not quite as good as Dumdum. It was closer to a soft Bluetack in consistency.

Fast same day despatch of door seals, rubbers, window channel, weatherstrip, edge trims, sound deadening and lots more. Providing excellent customer service for over 40 years.

                              Regards

                              Dave
