    New Stag Badges

I bought a new set of MK1 badges at Bewdley, anyone got any advice on the best adhesive to use to stick them on?

    Thanks,

    Mike.

When I fitted mine all I did was to sit them on a bed of silicone, and they have been there for the last 12 years. But if you know anybody in a bodyshop they have a very strong silicone that is used for sticking some body panels together.

I need to do this as well now although mine are Mk2 badges - there appears to be some lugs on the metal holder for the badges although I dont know if the badges have lugs on them as they havent arrived yet!

the badges arrived today and they have no lugs so some form of glue is definately required which I was hoping to avoid.

Be careful what black silicone you use as one will melt the backing colour. As Roger has suggested, have a word with a paint shop.

The most problematic think is getting the bu*gers to fit in the holders as they are poorly made and are too big and you need to carefully file down the edges, so do a trial fit fit before slapping stuff on and presuming the will just push in, as they wont

Adjust the shape/size so that they are a tight fit and use decent double-sided sticky tape; preferably the thicker stuff with a spongey feel, rather than the thin monofilament type. 1mm thick Number-plate tape from Halfrauds would do.

If I remember right from the last time I fitted these the lugs twist off from the old badge holder and fit on to the new one

Thanks for all the advice, I used clear silicon and that seems to have done the trick, I had to wittle the side ones down as Andrew said they weren't exactly a perfect fit. Front one was fine.

I swapped them because mine's a MK1 but had black badges, which to be honest I prefer, but I like the originality, although I've no plans to remove the coach lines, chrome sill cover or alloy wheels!

                          Hi Guys,

Working on changing the wing badges and have read through the post. Was told to use 5 minute Araldite but am now considering clear silicon.

I have filed, sanded and buffed the new ones to fit snugly. Wow that took some time.

When others have siliconed these in did you bead the sillicon round the edges to seal the fine gap between the badge and the back plate? Was thinking of doing this so it doesn't hold polish or dirt.

                          Regards,
                          Joe

Go to a Motor Factors or Car Bodywork Supplier. There is stuff like double sided tape, comes in different sizes, i.e. thickness, width, length. Some Moter Factors may not have thetape width you require but a decentBodywork supplier will. You can then place the badges onto the tape, cut around the edges you will then have a perfect fit.

Stikaflex is the stuff you need...... I had the Type R evo style rear spoiler bedded down on the back of my Accord tailgate with that stuff, with a couple of small self tappers to locate it.

I laughed at my panel beater mate as he did it, saying they was no way it would ever stay put, but 80000 miles and 6 years later it was solid as ever and the joints even withstood the rear impact that finally wrote the car off this year....

                              Good stuff that
