    Trackers

    Hi All

Whilst looking at the thread that was posted regards the Strictly Stag on the clubs Facebook page, I noticed a posting about a tracker system called

Apparently we get a discount via the club. When I click on the clubs name it asks me for a password. Any ideas what it might be?

Anyone on here have experience of the rbs system?

    Regards

    Bruce

All I can say is that you get what you pay for and these are very cheap!
My dad used to say " buy it cheap but it twice"

Very true. I have bought a couple from Hong Kong. Great when they work, but that's not often.

Hmmm, so you don't rate those particular trackers. Which ones do people think are good and worth the money then?

        Cheers

When we brought our caravan in '08 it came with a Tracker system (http://www.tracker.co.uk/) After the first year they contacted us asking for £99 for the next years cover, as this was '09 and the big recession had started I declined. They then offered 'lifetime' cover for £99 - somewhere at the back of a kitchen drawer I still have the hand that I bit off

A few months ago I noticed that the battery on the caravan wasn't holding a charge and was flat when we started off on a trip so I couldn't disarm the system. About 30 mins into the tow I got an automated phone call from Tracker telling me our caravan had been moved and to choose option 2 if I was unaware of this fact, so the system works !

Tracker seem to have a decent reputation and I think all of the UK's police forces work with them, so if you can suffer the annual fee they might be the one for you. (no connection etc.)

I've also had other tracking systems fitted to commercial vehicles that I've run, the type that allow you to check where it's been or is currently. The downside to these is that you have to tell the police where the vehicle is should it be stolen, whereas with products like Tracker they can find it themselves once alerted by the tracking company.

PS - Anyone wanna buy a caravan ??

Not going to recommend anyone yet, however my New Years resolution is to place an add in the Stag Mag and on the traders part of this forum
It's what I do for a living, and have done solely this for thirteen Years, before that I installed car alarms since 1987 so I recon I know what I am doing when it comes to security????

Perhaps somebody can recommend a method for stopping the sale of Tracker blockers that you can buy for about £40 ? My mate on the motorway police says there are many "dark areas" which are mobile and roaming around the motorway system!

The police put it down to company vehicle drivers using blockers to prevent their firms monitoring where they are ! Unless a car or caravan is stolen on impulse, you can guarantee that a blocker is in the toolbox of any scrote nicking things, still I'm glad I have one fitted even though they can be negated.

There was some information in an article in one of this years monthly mags describing various types and levels ( for want of a better description) that your pound notes can get you. There were some names dropped as examples but you need to check out the details yourselves so that no endorsements are perceived to be given by the club or the writers of the articles.

Not wishing to be pedantic but Tracker is a registered name of Tracker UK. Unfortunately is is commonly used for any tracking system, just like Hoover is used to describe cleaners. The real Tracker system relies on a custom frequency and is not easily blocked, unlike many of the rival systems. It would be great to have the "blockers" banned but no chance as they are illegal products made to cover illegal actions.

Of course, the one thing nobody has mentioned is if any of the products are approved by our insurers and, if so, do they have to be fitted by authorised persons

                    Merry Xmas

I am not too bothered whether the insurance company recognises it or not. I am more concerned about stopping the car being nicked or being able to find it if it is nicked.

                      regards

Insurance companies will only give a discount if it is a Thatcham approved product and fitted by an authorised persons. Beware that some companies will try to wriggle out of a claim if the system was not operational. I do not declare my alarm system for this reason.

                          Thanks John,

I was aware but as I don't have any tracking devices fitted to my motors at the minute I don't need to worry
Are you getting much thunder in East Sussex at the moment ?

No thunder, still a bit blowy but nothing like last night, loads of trees and fences down and rivers up.

Hope it's not too bad with you.
