    Hood

    Hi,

The car that I'm looking to buy has a faded hood albeit in excellent condition otherwise. I was considering using Renovo colour restorer and sealer.

Does this product work? Is it easy to use? Is there anything better on the market?

    Cheers.

    Hi

I used it on our old hood and wasn't that impressed. It did make it a lot better but it was patchy. And it's difficult to get off the paintwork.

In the end I bought a better hood and frame instead.

    Chris.

The condition of the hood is important, if it has a coating of proofing then the restorer won't take and it will just run off. If the level of proofing over the hood is variable then I'd expect it to be patchy.

I've used it a few times over the years on previous Stag and current one. Follow the instructions faithfully and it is a good product. I bought some from the local SAAB dealers a few years ago, so if it good enough for SAAB.........

Make sure your paintwork is well polished and any drips will wipe off. Otherwise they will come off using car polish.

          Thanks,

I guess that cleaning the hood would be a good idea before applying the restorer?

I used it and wasn't impressed with the finish ,I also found it difficult to remove any splashes from the paintwork . To be fair though I had used a water proofer on it only a few weeks earlier and the colour restorer seem to sit on top , when it dried it looked like I had used underseal on it .

I used their cleaner very successfully however when I used their restorer on another hood I had a problem with it staining through to the interior.

              Cheers

cold water dye mixed up in a spray bottle worked on mine. My Mum used to use it to change the colour of dresses and even shoes years ago. Its still available, Google Dylon.

I've tried various products on my Carisma Century's ancient hood. I got a powder based one on the interweb and it was useless. A couple of goes with Renovo (dark blue) worked really well but I was able to do it off the car which isn't practical on the Stag. It can run all over the place so ensure the paintwork is well masked off with newspaper.
                  Good luck

Thanks chaps, probably worth a go to see if Renovo does what it says on the tin.

If not I will back to ask for a black hood!

                    Thanks again.
