However, this was little different to the TR8, which did go into production, albeit almost exclusively in LHD form.

a while ago there was a report i think in practical classic on the tr7

    1 was standard tr7 engine
    then tr7 with sprint engine
    then rover 216 efi engine
    then rover v8 engine

the rover v8 came out on top, but not by much the rover 216 efi did really well, it beat the sprint engine,

While we are talking conversions how about a Rover 220 GTI (Tomcat) and use the seats in the Stag.
      Cheers Ian A

        I didn't realise the TR7 coupe was good off-road:

I think you'll find that it was a rather successful rally car in its time driven by the likes of Tony Pond. The introduction of the Audi Quattro made it - and others - seem like something from the Ark.

Bereft of a Triumph of any description.

Yes, Peter, I remember it well. However, the Exeter Trial is somewhat different to a rally stage..........

            Here's a TR7(8) convertible on last year's event:

My Daughter was offered one and turned it down because it was old. So currently she doesn't have a car but SWMBO said she'd have one and so I bought one for her instead (we were going to get one one way or another )

I do prefer the look of the convertible but the coupe's are much better value and the full length sunroof helps compensate. You are right very different to drive than the Stag even more modern feeling in many ways but also sitting just ahead of the rear wheels makes it much more roadster like. Great fun.

There is a a TR8 convertible that runs around town here. I was out cleaning the Stag one day and the guy stopped for a chat, and we compared notes. Of course I didn't think to get a picture of the two Triumph production V8s together, did I? I'll catch him again one day.
