Hi I am a new and first time owner of a Stag,I have had it for 3 weeks now and I have not stopped smiling and talking about it to anyone who will listen. It is in Mimosa has a history file over a inch thick and I love it.
I have always wanted one since I was a Kid in the early seventies and in the last few months been on the look out, been to see a few but one caught my eye this one it was being sold at a classic car auction been restored 20 years ago with a RV8 fitted.I took one hell of a gamble as I did not have time to go and view it ,I see the pictures and had someone walk round the car while on the phone describing it to me but my mate who is in the know told me I would be mad and stupid bidding for it so of course I ignored him and bid via the internet and won it for £2600 plus commission.
Talk about being nervous picking it up it was like going on a blind date, for all I knew it could of been ready for the scrap yard but to cut a long story it was the opposite. Ok it was not perfect but compared to some Stags I had been to see for £6000 to £8000 it was better than all of them, yes it has the Rover V8 and when I bid I said as it was so cheap I would put a Triumph engine back in but after 3 weeks of ownership I think the RV8 is staying it is a superb engine I now know why people convert them. Not everyones cup of tea I know and I know it will always be worth less but anyone who slates the RV8 should drive one before judging
The interior just needs new foam in the front seats the exterior has no rust or rot but it will get a new paint job just to get it perfect again as it has gone just a little flat and will be investing in a new set of stainless steel bumpers as the ones on the car at the moment have seen better days. Will be getting these done before the summer as the car cost way below my budget and I have the spare cash to do these things.
Looking forward to the summer and maybe meeting some of you
All the best Steve
Oh yes forgot to mention the best Christmas Day possible taking the Stag out for a drive before dinner just perfect
