    Numpty question: Trunnion on bonnet release

    Hi there,
    Hope all had a great Christmas!
    I just need some more fastener advice. Not sure what is 'out there'

    I've made the hole in the bonnet release arm for an extra trunnion screw for the back-up release cable (thanks for previous threads: dremel start/step drill bit and impact driver - took 5 mins )

    How do you fix the extra trunnion screw in the hole - what do i buy?

    Did a search, but I can't see from the pics available what folks used...

    If you get a trunnion with a flange on it like this. Pass it through the hole you've drilled and connect the cable on the other side that should work.

        If you drill the hole the right size it won't move much and you can put a bit of tension on the cable.

            Hi Tanya,

            I resolved this around 10 years ago using a couple of 6mm s/steel bolts and a standard solderless nipple. The pictures should show how:

            As per the accelerator and choke cables, the ends are sealed using shrink wrap sleeving. These pictures are from my old Stag, but I have fitted an identical system to my current Stag.

              That looks neat. I guess you had to drill holes in the bolts?

                  Just to finish off this thread and get you to check my work....

                  This is the best I could do with what I found. Both the main release cable and the emergency release cables work...so far
                  I think I chose the wrong bolt - took all day to drill a hole through it, but at least it'll be man enough for the job. I could only stomach drilling one hole in a bolt so I made a loop out of the cable - it shouldn't come off the bolt. It's certainly not as tidy, but I hope the system will be ok. The old handle is used as the emergency handle (I had ordered a new cable and handle) and is dangling in the passenger footwell. I could mount it on a bracket, but it's not in the way where it is.
