Which Cibies to order? Sidelight or not. Also rear lights.

I'm wanting to order 4 Cibie headlights, and have them set up so all 4 operate at same time either dipped or main beam. I have modified a Wards wiring loom with extra relays to correct the fault that exists with the Wards loom, so it now switches the dipped bulbs off when main beam switched on.

Do I order 4 x Cibie 5 3/4 H4 with or without sidelights? [I can't remember if Stag has sidelights!]

[I'm going the Cibie route because I'm led to believe they have good reflectors and are good quality]

Also I'm wanting to set my rear lights up as bright as possible, to aid safety. I think this will be aided by having a new wiring loom with good electrical contacts, and was thinking of using new bulb holders [I believe the LD Parts ones are meant to be better quality] I will use new rear cover lenses and clean reflectors etc. Will using LED bulbs make any additional difference?

    Happy new year everyone.

    Dave.

Dave, the stag already has sidelights so you dont need them in your headlamps. I did my own wiring, and have all 4 dipped coming on alternate to 4 mains, but I will be adding a modification to add a switch to disable two of the dipped beams. The reason is I find that when in heavy traffic, and the angine revs are mostly at idle, the load on the alternator is too high and the battery is not getting enough charge. I still want 4 dips under some conditions though hence the switch.

For the rear lamps I fitted clear lenses, plus resilvered the reflectors using 'chrome' paint. Also soldered the earth contact on the old lamp holders rather than use new ones which were poor quality IMO. Also old bullet connectors are often the culprit, so clean males and fit new females for those. Paying careful attentuion of every connection point in the wiring has made a huge difference to my lighting which I am now really pleased with. And dont forget the fuse box.

    Happy New Year.

Do you know where to get good ones?

          Hi Dave.

You are going along the right lines getting Cibie, they always had good optics, although now owned by Valeo.

You are also correct that LD parts sell better lamp holders but they only sell either the single or dual filament holders, I think its the dual, I bought the others from another source and you are right, they are rubbish.

I played with LEDs some time ago, the problem was that they were too directional, great from dead behind but useless at an angle. Some of the "maize" sticks may be better and technology has moved well ahead.

Happy New Year to you too.
