    engine conversions

just thinking out loud, but what is the main thing to look out for when carry out an engine conversion

i know rover engines are lighter than the triumph
so would that be the first thing to do, weight what ever engine you use ( thinking of an alfa any one used one before )

what else should look out for thanks dave

One of the main things to look out for if you feel the need to do an engine conversion is to buy an lump than is more reliable than the TV8..
    An Alfa engine Dave,really...

I have never understood why anyone would want to put another engine in a Stag thus making it no longer a Stag - in my thinking that is. Same for any other make of car. If someone wants to put say and Alfa engine in, why not just buy the Alfa? But maybe that is just me! I'll duck my head down now!

Hello Dave i must echo what Don has said, whats the point in buying a stag and then changing the engine...what the hell will you do in the winter months without a stag engine to repair..knitting or something ...Steve

I do understand the whole engine swop thing as I have one of each..but I have to keep saying, an Alfa Dave..please don't..

My proper job is to source modern cars, and back in the 80,s when the Alfa 145,155,156 were popular I bought quite a few..
The 2.0 Twin Spark engine was great when it was on song, and the 3.0 V6 was an amazing sounding motor.
But they used to throw pistons through the blocks, and eat camshafts for a pastime..

I too have wondered about the next engine for my stag..I have an RV8 that is 1968 and despite rebuilding it the rear oil seal seems to be incontinent again. So it got me wondering about what will go I the engine bay. It clearly has to be V8. But there are a few to choose from including trying to find a half decent TV8. And there is the problem for those of us who do not have a TV8. You have to buy one and a really good TV8 engine is not cheap. But a Chevy or a rover is. There are also jag V8's, merc V8's, Lexus V8's and all manor of Yank V8's.

                    But not an Alfa!!!!!!!!!

My preference is a Yank to be honest,

                    I'll go now :-)

                      yes and no
worked out the hoodcover, but the rear of the hood is a bit of a problem ,also as my brothers car is worst than i originally thought, project hood is on back burner for now

Done loads of work on these back in the day, might be a tight fit and need bigger springs though

ok may be alfa not so good then, but how do you go about deciding what to use ? is it weight and size, to see if it will fit the engine bay, then are there adapters to fit gearboxes ?
