    Good news? And a conundrum

I've managed to obtain a lockup to put my Mini Cooper in over the worst of the winter. I'm always at a bit of a loss at this time of year are there are few shows or runs so now is when it do most of my ' spannering'. Touch wood the mini and the stag are both fine and need minimal attention so I'm thinking a little project might be in order.

I have some criteria; small enough to fit and work on ( spitfire size max), cheap and cheerful ( total budget about £4k), readily available parts. A little more thought suggests tax free, body work and paint done, mechanical work and trim needed, rolling so easy to move and desirable when finished as I don't know weather I'd keep it.

Now I've thought of another mini but they rarely fetch over £3k until the jump to £6-7k. I simply don't like the spitfire and I've done everything possible with mgs. Heralds are worth less if hard tops and soft tops are too expensive.

So I'm thinking what to look for, any thoughts welcome

    Gary

Gotta be worth more than Herald but as easy to work on.

      Cheers

What about a VW beetle great fun little car, easy to work on simple , plenty of back up plenty of cheap parts lots of Dub Clubs about . I had one in the 1970's she would go anywhere in mud or snow , started on almost flat battery brilliant little cars. the 1301 ,1302, 1303 are not so desirable as I think parts are rarer . They hold there value and easy to sell on . Once you buy you will be hooked . Just watch for corrosion underneath , heater ducts and rear inner wheel arches where they meet the body.
You can unbolt the body off the rear axle with the engine attached . Low maintenance air cooled so NO OVERHEATING worries they tend to eat spark plugs so you need hot tip ones. Worth considering lots about at your price some need a bit of work .
          Good luck Derek

Ok i know. But if you have an itch it needs a scratch.

I like the vitesse idea, and the standards are a maybe too. Beetles too but I think they're bigger than most folk expect with the highly curved front and back.

Maybe take a look around and see what pops up in your locale. It might be something you may never have considered initially.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I'd go Vitesse, either soft top or hard top, both are nice. Bet they sound nice too

                      Gary,
There were lots of interesting Classics on display at a Classic Car show here a few years ago, and I took pictures of most of them.
If you look through the photos it might give you an idea as to what to go for. The white Stag was mine, and the red one belonged to the organiser of the show which broke the record for the number of Classic Cars in one place at one time in the whole of Spain and it's Islands (more than 600). Arona is the "County" in which I live, and the show was held just down the road in Las Americas. As you will see "British" made Classics accounted for most of the cars on show, both right & left hand drive ones.
Most of the cars already mentioned you will find pictured - I think I took nearly 200 photos.
The Link appears below. Let me know if it doesn't work as haven't used this Picasa Web Site before - trying it out as alternative to Photobucket.

I'd love a GT6 if I had the space for a second car.
