I went to this tunnel just after this article appeared in a magazine, it is the dingle tunnel in Liverpool.

A lot of the cars had been there for a number of years, they were stored by the owner of the garage which is at the entrance to the tunnel. Most were customers cars that had either been unable to pay the bill or simply never came back for them. I was able to wander the length of the tunnel, over half a mile, and it was like taking a walk back in time, the oldest cars being at the far end of the tunnel the newest toward the front. I had my eye on a couple of cars and had started the process of tracking down owners, then this happened

Most of the cars were behind this collapse. Arghhhh !!!

This was about 18 months ago, so I'm not sure what the current situation is. But I am glad I got to see first hand this piece of motoring history.

Many moons ago back in the day when we lived London me and the missus were out in the TR6 on a Sunday and had done a trip to the coast. It was a hot sunny day which plays havoc with the old Lucas pump. Dressed in shorts, tee shirt and shades we looked cool. On the way towards the Blackwall tunnel was a Triumph Stag on the side of the road with steam billowing across the motorway. I slowed down and asked if he was alright and he said (with a plum in his mouth),
" I say, have you got any water?"
I said. ( with my plum in my mouth).
"Never have to carry the stuff, old chap".
So off we went and halfway through the tunnel the bloody fuel pump started to cavitate. To my horror the car ground to a halt in the fast lane and pretty soon the traffic was tailing back with horns blaring. I kept trying to start it. I gave up and jumped over the rear valance, opened the boot and retrieved my petrol container which was full of water.

As I sloshed the water over the hot pump a van driver crawling past shouted out. " That's right mate. Set the F----g thing alight!

I used to break down with lucas pump cavitation regularly on warm days so I couldn't spare it. I now have an "Asian" Bosch pump. So called because Moss said it came from Asia but refused to tell me who made it. As a result I never bought another thing from them. Even that cavitates on warm days down here on the NZ South Island (next to the South Pole). I think Triumphs are simply destined to be unreliable. Although I'm hoping my electric water pump and 16" fan will elliminate any overheating issues with the Stag.
