    Trigbush's Stag

    Hey Folks,

Another Stag project thread. Not strictly a restoration, but a refresh if you will. Bought the Stag last year and it is currently being refreshed by Faversham Classics (great guys and great to deal with).

The Stag has been stripped and will be sent off for body work and respray over the next three weeks. Thankfully, no nasty surprises on the strip. Base metal looking very good. Worst they found was a shorn window wiper nut thread. Dash is being re-covered at Aldridge Trimming next week, before being sent to Classic Dash who are re-veneering the woodwork in elm burr.

    Some (iPad) photos here: http://s1300.photobucket.com/user/Tr...0and%20respray

Here are the links to some 75 photos I took of the car during the two inspections prior to purchase (in case you are interested):

        Quick update:

The BMIHT certificate arrived this morning for the Stag. Good news is that it is confirmed as a 1971 Stag built on 19 April and despatched on 25 October to the Detroit BL dealer aboard the vessel Sneland 1 from South Key Newport Dock. See here for details on the vessel http://www.shipsandharbours.com/picture/number21982.asp

I need to check the engine number just to confirm it matches. But the car was originally Jasmine with a saddle tan interior and black hood (and a jasmine hardtop - where is that today?)!!

So, as I suspected, the Sapphire Blue is not the original colour (as I know code 96 was not available in 1971). But anyway, I prefer the blue.

        The journey continues...

                      Quick update:

                      1. Spoke with Aldridge Trimming this morning. They are going to recover the dash for me. Quote is 353.86 pounds. They will do it this week and then it is going to be sent to Classic Dash for fitting and checking with the newly re-veneered woodwork in Elm Burr.

                      2. Spoke with MAS in Sittingbourne who are doing the bodywork and respray for me. Thankfully, they have described the car's body as very good. There were some repairs on the car previously, but it was well done. They think that perhaps there was some hastiness in the respray as it did have some shrinkage on it. But the filler on the car is minimal and they have done an extensive photo record for me of their work. It's ready to be epoxy primed which will happen this week. Then when it's dry they will prepare it for a high build. If they are happy with that they will then block and prepare for a two-coat final spray and polish. I will get photos of all of these steps. interestingly, they were surprised to hear the car was originally delivered in Jasmine (according to BMIHT certificate) as they found nothing of Jasmine on the car - so it has had a proper full body bare metal respray at some point. They also agree with me that Sapphire Blue is a fine colour for the car (even though technically SB not available in '71 but only from '72). I will post some photos when I get them.

They may be able to send the car back to Faversham at the end of next week.

Feeling great about the reports. MAS sounds like they are doing a great job and their information/reporting was very good.

                      A good day.

Photos here of work before the primer http://s1300.photobucket.com/user/Tr...%20Preparation

I understand it was primed on Saturday.

Slightly worried about that right front wing - what's that all about? And a small hole in the right sill??
