Choke Cable removal

Hi All

i need to remove the console and wood surround where the heater switch is and just wondering how to remove the choke cable so i can separate the wood from the console.

Also does anyone know the best way to loosen/tighten the chrome retaining nuts for some off the switches, rather not use pliers and rist damaging the wood.

i guess the special tool is hard to find.

Hi Tim, I have just done job you describe. The choke depends on if you have a removable know. (tiny push in pin same as heater and rear window switches.) If not you need to disconnect cables of carbs, and draw the complete consul and cable from car, then remove choke by working from rear.( least ways that is what I did). Also to remove chrome rings I used a small screwdriver in grooves on rings. (Again that's what I did) others may have a better way for it all. Ray

Some of the knobs are held in with a grub screw so you need an allen key to loosen it off.

I made a tool from an old box spanner (or you could use steel tubing) by cutting & filing the teeth to match the profile of the ring. I know it takes some time, but I have used it many times over and works a treat.

Removed very easy in the end after disconnecting the choke light switch and metal clip and rear retaining nut and withdrew from the back.
