towbar height

hi all
have fitted a towbar to my stag for attaching a bike trailer in the future. it had a drop plate fitted and looking at some pictures of other stags with towbars
the towball looks nearer to the bumper height.have removed the drop plate and looks a lot better with a height from the ground of 470mm.i believe the height should be between 350 and 420.what heights do any of you have and is your ball bumper height or lower.thanks brian

Brian.Derek here I tow a caravan with my stag.I have 18inchers from the top off the ball to the ground.Top off ball is in the midd of the bumper .Hope this helps .Derek Hicks

hi,correct height is 18 inches from ground to centre of ball

Do many people tow caravans with a stag ?I am still undecided as what to do about towing ours I would like to but not sure what the max weight you are allowed to tow with a stag .

Problem is that weights of cars and caravans have gone up by about 50% since Stags were built. In its day, the Stag was quite heavy - approx. 1250 kg compared with a typical family saloon around 1000kg. A typical 4 berth van was about 8-900kg, very good balance for the Stag. Nowadays, a typical family car is around 1700kg, and typical 4 berth van around 1400kg. So, it is difficult to find a modern 'van to suite the Stag.
I still have a 1987 Mardon Mystique 4/5 berth. I hardly use it now, but I used to take it all over Europe with the Stag, with my wife and 2 teenage kids. Perfect car for the task.
