    Vacuum gauge

    Quick question

I am going to look at a friends Stag who has a vacuum gauge fitted and he says its running in reverse. Is there just one tube from the inlet manifold or two to balance it? Where would it attach?

Anyone got one who can tell me?

I think its one of those gauges that has multi-coloured segments on it

    Cheers

some vacuum gauges are set to work anti clockwise..... maybe that's seen as reverse.

There is no point provided for attachment, and the distributor vacuum pipe is not suitable. But you could use the vacuum pipe that feeds the warm air flap motor (on the air filter).

If its a colored gauge then it will be clockwise
normally they need a restictor in line
connect to full vacuum not ported
              speedograph richfield sell the restictor
Part No. MA Manifold Adaptor threaded 2BA for connecting vacuum gauge pipeline
to inlet manifold. Supplied with blanking screw and built in restrictor.

If you google images of vacuum gauges there are all sorts and more than I realized! Some work anti clockwise some work clockwise some work either side of centre.

also its not possible to run in reverse , there is a stop next to the needle and internally stopped as well
                  the mind boggles

I tapped the fitting into the head of the bolt for the banjo connection for the hose to the powerbrakes. Easy and removeable to do and no risk of drill swarf dropping into the inlet manifold.
                        Cheers Ian A

I also removed the power brake vacuum pipe and braised a 3/16 copper pipe into it.I fitted the vacumn gauge at the right side of the parcel tray so as not to be so intrusive.Easily seen from driver.Gauge works well.

I fitted one once on my ford, drilled and tapped the inlet manifold - too many moons and Xmas puts to think about lol
Yes and it was the Lucas coloured one - it was great fun fitting gauges back then lol

So true, I remember transferring rev counters, voltmeters and oil pressure gauges from car to car. How things have changed.
