    Wiper Motor Problems ?

Here goes the 1st of probably many questions re repairs/maintenance of my Stag.

The wiper motor operates continually when the ignition is on, I have taken the cover off the assembly and everything appears to be complete and in position but not 100% sure.

Wiring/Continuity is as follows if it makes sense to anyone:

    Ignition on
Stalk in off position: Continuity between red and brown
Stalk speed 1: Continuity between red and green
Stalk speed 2: Continuity between blue and green

the motor does change speed between 1 and 2

    Any suggestions ?

    Hi Andrew,

Sounds like the small park switch on the motor gearbox is either not adjusted correctly or it (or the bit that actuates it) is broken.

Take a quick look at post no.4 by MandM on this thread - it should explain it all:

      Andrew,

Snap with Roger on that one, that was a problem and cause I had once.

Thanks for that Roger, im not sure if the plastic slider is in the correct way but it was moving over the pin o.k, I will go back up to the garage later and check the microswitch as I am suspecting this after looking at the previous post, thanks for the link.

Yep. I just had to bodge mine. It was working but now it appears there is enough wear in the lid to allow the cable end to lift in the motor housing and thereby notpush the switch to turn it off.

Totally agree with all that's been said, especially as M&M said on the other thread about being awkward to get to.

However, if you just slacken the two screws that retain that switch then you can slide it forwards and backwards a little and, by trial and error, you will probably be able to find the correct position without needing to open the motor or remove the switch.

            Cheers

I just had mine in bits to fit new brushes and grease the drive cable. I found this problem when i put it back together, i bent the metal piece that sits in the plastic slider down to provide a bit more down pressure in the switch.

Just found that the metal piece that sits over the slider block has a broken arm (very flimsy) and it is not pushing the block down over the micro switch pin so looks like I need to purchase a new wiper rack/cable.

i have the same problem Andrew. The broken part of the rack can be seen the piccy in Rimmers Cat.
I have cut a piece of rubber that is very slightly too long for the top of the slider but is thick enough to slide with the rack. Dont know how long it will last though before I have to buy a new one

                    Thanks Neil.
I have found part number RTC1149 which certainly has the part I need, (the metal arm that sits in to the plastic slider block)RTC1149.jpg

It also looks a bit more substantial than the original

I've just had the same problem after days of testing electrical circuits and trying to source a second hand switch here in Christchurch. The little stainless steel bracket mounted on the rack which holds the plastic cam down had broken a weld at one end and could not produce enough downforce to activate the switch. I took the rack down to a mate of mine and he put a spot of weld back onto it. Works fine now and I saved a week in getting a new rack shipped out. While I was repairing it I had thought of taking pictures just in case someone else had the same problem. But I was covered in grease playing with that darn thing and soon gave up on the idea. It's always something simple. Just have to go through that painful and time consuming elimination process.

                        Cheers

So now Ive bodged the rack the drivers side arm travels the right distance and the park all works well but the blade goes past the screen frame but just a t the bottom. I think the pivot point, on the blade carrier is too loose. Any other ideas?
