The two Body Number / Sales Number plates beside the bonnet hinge have been removed from my Stag in the distant past. Is there anywhere else on the body that these numbers could be found? I appreciate I can get the body number via a Heritage Certificate but I wouldn’t have anything to match it against. My search suggested German cars had the number added elsewhere but mine is a Federal car.

I think all stags had body number on one of the plates as it was there only identification whilst being built, sprayed and trimmed in Liverpool. Once put on the Canley line the chassis/vin plate was put on in order of going down the line thus LD 500 could have any body that was nearest to the line and the body number was put on the build sheet for record purposes. The sales plate I am not sure about. US cars may have had vin number stamped on body as well as they had funny identity laws there. Best get heritage certificate to obtain these numbers don't forget body number plate was painted sales number wasn't. Dave

A close inspection of both strut mounts shows no numbers there so unless anybody knows of any other hidden locations it looks like I am out of luck. I will get a Heritage Certificate and go that route. I can only think the front panel was replaced at some point and the plates not transferred over? I don't actually need the numbers for anything, just the "anorak" in me!1973 Federal Stag MKII LE20448U & 1972 TR6
