    Wipers

    Hi all.
So, I've had the wiper motor off, cleaned out all the cruddy old grease, cleaned everything up and it now works lovely. All the time. Constantly! I've found a few tips on old threads and think I can probably sort it but my question is should the copper micro switch underneath be open and exposed to the elements? I'm pretty sure I haven't missed anything on re-assembly. Was it like this all along?
    Cheers,
    Mark.

      cheers Graham.
Seems such a delicate part to not have a cover.
I've found the continuous operation problem; the little arm that engages in the plastic slider has worn really thin and has now split so it can't operate the switch.
      Another new part needed!

This is a link to the post Graham was referring to - worth a quick read including the link to an even earlier post.

          Good Luck.

Nice one Graham and Roger, that little metal arm is definitely the culprit, and not just for me it seems!
I like the idea of a tiny spot weld on the broken part of the clip, but then again a new rack is 'only' £25 so that's cheap enough if it lasts another 40 years!

            Cheers,

            Mark

If you are talking about the wire rack, then it is easy to replace. Remove both wiper arms from the spindles and pull the wire rack out from the wiper motor end. Whilst it's out, rotate each spindle 180 degrees, then feed the new one in. Replace wiper arms.

Rotating the spindles 180 degrees means that a new set of teeth are operating on the rack, which might remove some slack in the system. Unless someone has done that before of course.........

that won't help - they've got the same wiper arrangement as the autos.
