It Lives!, Though windsreen wipers wont turn off?

So today I connected the battery, calibrated the Fuel ratio meter, even spun the engine over a few times!
Maybe with petrol it would actually run!!

Thing is, amongst the few electrical anomalies, the windscreen wipers don't turn off, whilst this might seem in irrelevance in this country, I am anticipating driving through the occasional tunnel or Sainsburys underground car park, in which case it would be handy to turn them off.

Now it works fine in position 1 and increases in position 2, on intermittent it works intermittently, but the off position is the same as position 1.
The fact it works on the intermitant setting, would you guys presume its not that I could have wired anything up wrong, but that it must be the switch?

It must be a great feeling getting this far.
There have been a couple of threads on this very problem in recent days, have a look at the one called "wipers" that is currently active and this links to the previous thread that also has some good info. Have you checked the wiper rack at the motor end: the metal tang that engages the switch can break (mine had had it seems to be a common problem).

Ah, of course, turning off the switch doesnt kill the power to the wiper motor because the blades would have no power to return to the park position.
The end of my inner cable was a bit suspect, so will buy a new one.
So I can slide this out without having to remove the dash I hope!

          Cheers

Yep, it'll definitely be something related to the parking switch.

            Cheers

Yes, you can remove the rack without going into the dash. Simply remove the wipers and drag the old rack out and put the new rack in with plenty of grease. A horrible job. I posted a week or so ago about the problem of the wipers not turning off. Took ages to pin it down. But that's the beauty of the forum.

Don't know why I bothered painting the wiper motor. The thing has been in and out that many times getting scratched and smudged with grease that it looks like it's been bowled against the West Indies!

Thought this photo may be of use to some in the future as it shows the adjustment slots, on the park switch

Is your switch 'open' like that Martin ? Mine has a plastic cover over that copper connector.

On the subject of wiper motors I found something the other day that may be of help to some. My wipers sometimes wouldn't park at all - I had to turn the ignition off - and it ran permanently in the intermittent position at times.

I'd dismantled the motor last year and I was conscious that there is a very small arrow on the motor body that should align with one of the two main bolts. However, I noticed that it was no longer aligned. I slackened the bolts (and noticed that they weren't particularly tight) realigned the bolt head with the arrow and retightened them.

Result - perfect operation and a clean MOT pass the next day

                    Cheers
