Not All BMW Drivers Are Bad.....

To simplify the manufacture of a gearbox crossmember for my ZF conversion, I have been looking for a rear extension housing from a BMW to replace the Jag one.

    BMW ZF Tailshaft.jpg

Having trawled 'tinternet, visited local breakers and transmission specialists without success, I joined a BMW forum and posted in the Parts Wanted section, stating why I wanted it. Within minutes I had an offer from one of their regular posters to take the housing off a 635CSI gearbox he had lying around and send it to me for the cost of postage. Today I had confirmation that he had sent it.

Not only that, but I have had a lot of interest in the Stag and I was asked to start a thread in their Non BMW section! All this without joining a club and free of charge (although they do ask for donations if possible).

Now that I have posted more than 10 times I get password protected access to their Over 18s Pub Section, where just about anything goes.

Something for consideration for our forum is the 'Thanks' button on every post. It makes it so much easier to say 'Thank You' to someone and the number of times you have 'Thanked' or 'Been Thanked' is there for all to see. It seems much clearer and simpler than our 'Reputation' star.

Sounds like the way forward to me Dave, lets hope that those who can make it happen are reading this as well

Hi Dave. Yes, the one in the picture does have a lug missing, but it's only a sample picture I posted to show what I wanted. The reason for changing it is that I can use the Stag crossmember and mounting rubbers, but with a simple piece of bent metal to join it to the BMW tailshaft extension. I must give Glenn the credit for coming up with the idea. It is so much simpler than manufacturing something to fit the offset single Jaguar mounting or a frame type support to pick up the tailshaft extension bolts.

I've got someone working on that for me. It will be electro-mechanical apparently. Speed pickup from a segmented wheel to a small box fixed to the back of the original speedo, converting the pulses into a rotary movement. Yeah, baffles me too, but I am assured it will work . Same magic box will work the inhibit and reverse lights. Should be tested and ready in a week or so, and with the BMW tailshaft extension I ought to be ready to go.....................

Funny how a family tree would connect a BMW and a Stag in some weird way....Triumph to BL to Rover group bought by BMW.......

And would the BMW 6-Series convertible be a modern equivalent to the Stag? Discuss

An alternate reporting of BMW drivers:

Official guidelines for safely handling encounters with white BMWs, Mercedes and Audis have been published by the Department of Transport.
