B/w 35 oil leaks "looks like it's got measles" any tips

I'am having a go at my b/w oil leaks
P1050401.jpg I now have the sump off, the maget was attached to the oil pick uo, you can see where i have sid it off, is this the right postion for the magnet?, also any tips or advice while under here?, I'am also going to try and change the cross shaft seals, any tip here?, will be changing the copper washer on the filler tube for dowty seals.
P1050405.jpgP1050406.jpgif i undo the four screws on the oil pick up will that be all that comes loose?.

Thanks for the help in advance

Don't be too keen to cure all the drips. After all, how will the Stag mark its territory?

Russ is the expert, hopefully he will give you a run down soon. Only tip I can give you is keep it all very clean and DO NOT USE ANY SEALANT on the cork sump gasket when you reassemble. You don't want to risk any getting into the delicate innards of your gearbox, it will possibly bock the small holes to ATF flows through.

In my experience the BW35 leaks more the longer it's left unused. Once you star using it a lot of the leaks "dry" up.

The magnet fine there, as I recall you need to drop the valve block and knock out the scroll pin and slide the cross shaft out of the seal to change them, (somone will confirm or put me right here) removeing the 4 screws will drop the filter, fitting dowty washers fine. Graham

I have used Right Stuff on both my 35 and 65 doing away with gaskets and they have never leaked. I have also used on rebuilds as I have found cork invariably leaks. Graham

To be honest Graham I was only repeating what Russ (kryten) has said about the use of sealant several times on posts about autoboxes (at least that's what I think I remember him saying!). You are right about the cork gasket though. With mine as I said the leakage seems to be a lot worse when not used - same seems to be true of the cork gasket on the rocker cover of my old diesel landy. I do wonder if the cork gasket dries and shrinks without the "swelling" effect of warm/hot oil washing over it.

Dont be so sure its the cork gasket leaking. It can come from higher up the 35 box.
There is a rubber o ring on the selector somewhere (doing this from memory 25 years ago) and also the 35 spews out fluid periodically which will run down and onto the floor..

And I would agree with Russ, about not using sealant with a gasket, I think when giving advice you have to be very careful about what you say, and if you condone the use of sealant for sure you will get some character applying it with a garden spade. I personally use Right Stuff without gaskets especially on tin sump pans as it takes up any distortion, it's also used on moderns as well. Graham

I always apply Vaseline to the cork gaskets a good smear to both sides helps to stop leaks. Also helps hold internal auto gearbox parts in place and lubricates for start up after i have been messing inside my auto boxes
Also i apply to cam cover gaskets.
                  Cheers Glenn

I'm currently trying this to cure my leaky P/S pump and it seems to be working. It claims it can also be used in auto transmission. http://www.granvilleoil.com/product_...hp?prod_id=218
