Hi all, just wondered if the SOC get's any discount from suppliers. I'm about to place a £500+ order and EJ Wards are looking like the cheapest so far but a discount from another supplier might alter that.

Floyd.
Worth remembering some give 'on-line' discounts if the order is placed thru the web (Paddocks give 5% I believe) Other than that I would simply ask, for an order of that size they would not wantyou to go elsewhere - Alan
I have just joined the Triumph Stag Club USA purely out of curiosity - (I liked the look of their website and wondered what the members area had in it).
Anyway back to the subject in hand, the first Magazine to come through had a Paddocks advert offering 10% off for Club members. Don't know whether they would consider it valid for UK based members though, I haven't tried it yet!

I think Rimmers gives a 3% discount on online orders over £50.
discounts are a funny thing - we all like them but I bet there are more posts about poor quality parts than good quality parts. The price/service equation is a very subjective thing but I always prefer the local supplier to buying from a web-site. I am happy to pay a higher price for a guaranteed service, plus people have to earn a living at every stage in the supply chain.
I worked in a specialist part of the internet industry during the fall-out from the .com boom. There were huge barriers to entry and over-capacity. We focussed on customer service first and price second. There were some tough years; lots of colleagues lost their jobs and the business re-financed several times. Buyers used play suppliers off against one another and the industry didnt make £0.01 pence profit in the 5 years I was there. At the last round of new finance, some different principles came to the table - those companies that handnt been closed down were all bought and within 4 months no real competition existed for this speacilised area. Pricing went-up by 60% overnight and customer service decreased.
Probably not a perfect comparison but relevant I think. Some of these posts suggest 3-5% discount may be possible. on £500 that is £15-25. In isolation that isnt going to change anything for anyone connected with Triumph Stag ownership. For a business, if they give that away on every order, they either have a poor standard of living and or go under or buy cheap parts, but that is were this little rant came in..
I joined the other club years ago for the 10% discount with Paddocks (which more than paid for itself at the time). I asked them why they didn't give SOC members a discount and they told me the other club gave them free advertising and SOC would not.
Who read thedozen or so photocopied A4 sheets that constituted a club mag that I received in the whole year of membership I don't know, but the ad was there and I got my discount.
SOC mag raisesmuch revenue from advertising. Should we bewilling to 'loose' some of thatfor our benefit? I believe we should.
Its a funny one this. Assuming that the SOC represents the bulk of Stag owners, if we all had a discount, the suppliers would have to put their base prices up to maintain their profit margins thus counteracting the discount so we would be back where we started anyway!

So true Dave
A lot of people ask me why we give different discounts on our product and why don't we just have a price?
We have a discount because everyone ask for one! But to do this we have to multiple the price buy a factor so to allow for the correct profit margin to be made!
We don't just have a price because the competition would know what price we will be sell for and undercut us!
Discounts are crap, what we need is quality products at a realistic price!
