    Leaking water pump ...again,

    Hi all
I have searched the forum, but cannot find an answer for this question:
When rebuilt, does the water pump need a run in period to stop leaking?
It only appears to leak while running, not when stopped, is this normal? Its not leaking a lot, but does leave a bit of water in the "V"

Have you seen it leaking from the water pump as it could be leaking from the inlet manifold
It took me three try's to stop mine.

Lots on here feel it is now acceptable for the pump to bed in.and leak within that period.
Now I need Russ ,Ian and others who owned or worked on Stags in the 70's to comment.
If I had fitted a pump back then and it leaked,it would have been straight out again.
in fairness I don't think then I renewed seals, the pump was renewed.

So is it a problem with the seal kits that allow them to leak,in my opinion yes..

I rebuilt my pump I skimmed the back of the impeller and used a rebuild kit never had a leak. In general pump seals should not leak if the mating faces are flat and true Might be an idea to buy one from LD parts they sell a modified version,
              good luck

Pretty much my experience; if the impeller has been skimmed with a new seal it shouldn't leak.

Mine leaked a bit when it was refurbed, but it is perfectly dry now. It took a good few thousand miles though. If the leak isn't excessive I would be inclined to leave it and see how it goes.

                  Regards

Once again thanks to all for responding. I will give it a bit of time to bed in cause I'm fed up of pulling it apart !!!!

I had this same problem on the Stag engine estate. Maybe I botched skimming the impeller, it leaked so badly I had to run with the cap off the header tank for the first 50 miles, but after a couple of thousand it is now dry. Like you I couldn't be bothered to take it apart again
