alternator belt change any tips?

Mine is squealing in wet weather from start up or as revs rise.

I've perused the Haynes etc-looks like it is a bit of a fiddle to adjust the alternator back and get the tension right after removal. Any tips before i start?

Not such a bad job,familiarise your self with the adjustment before you start ,don't forget to crack the long alt bolt to allow it to pivot.remove belt clean area thoroughly and inspect pulleys for damage to grooves and alignment with a straight edge, refit new and tension as described on Rom run for a while and recheck tension.mine is moved up and to the other side makes this easy and keeps it out of the muck.

I had a lot of trouble with this. The g/box oil cooler was in the way trying to access from underneath. Finished up taking the power steering pump off for top access,(which didn't really help I'm bound to say). Part of the problem was having no thread in the alternator body on the adjustment bolt, so had to use two hands for the nut and bolt, meaning. I had no hand for the screwdriver used as a lever to get the tension. I'm coming to the conclusion that whatever I do the car resists me...!!

if you need a third hand use a piece of wood and another bit sawn as a wedge to tap together gentle twixt block and alt to get the tension correct then tighten .they wont slip and your hands are free. but stags in general do tend to bite and be uncooperative animals lol.

What a cracking idea !! My lad would probably done it for me, he is good on the creative side like that, trouble is 6trips to afghan and currently in the Falklands he is not around much to help...

and I bet when he's home the last thing you would want him doing is twatting about under a stag , I take it he's in the forces Damien and if he is I take my hat off to him greatest of respect for our guys .

Ha !!! Steve, yes both my elder boys are in the RAF, following the old mans footsteps. A Stag would probably be easy to him, as he is used to normally playing with a C130. Thanks on their behalf for you comment.
