    RV8 low rider intake?

    Hi chaps

Just looking for some advice I've recently bought a stag with a rv8 as you can see from the picture it's got a holly carb set up. The worry I have is the filter can't really be filtering anything worthwhile and front of the filter is touching the bonnet. Does anyone know if the low rider intakes as sold by monarch fit over the carb and therefore will filter better and won't foul the bonnet?

    Thanks a lot

you need a new sponge element for that from Edelbrock or similar. Mine touches the bonnet too I had to butcher the front of it...

but yours looks like its lower than mine so you should be able to fit a low rider air filter. Reel steel have some listed you can get them other places too. Does your bonnet have the bulge or is it normal?

The various inlet manifolds available for the RV8 have widely differing heights for the carb base. I recall the Edelbrock "Torker 2" was one of the lowest. Think there was an Offenhauser one some time back that was also low profile.

So if you have a filter clearance problem you could also investigate swapping the inlet manifold. There are always s/h ones floating around.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I had a circular SS type on my 3.5 and I dished the underside so that it sat lower on the carb, in my case an Edelbrock, and it worked quite successfully with the standard bonnet in place. Despite reducing the internal clearance between the carb and the lid I didn't notice any reduction in performance.

Thanks chaps I might try a 14" x 3" low rider filter from reel steel I was also wondering over the choke and the breathers as at the moment they aren't connected!

Also where's the best place for headers?

On the exhaust side of the heads!

Mine were fitted to the engine when I got the car. I sand blasted them, painted them and wrapped them.

I believe you can get them from RBs (£££!) Reel steel probably, any other Rover V8 or V8 engine specialist and if you feel inclined you can buy tube bits and make them yourself!
I think mine are normal RV8 tubular manifolds that have been bolted to the opposite side of the engine from normal (I don't know that for sure though) so that they exit at the front of the engine and then the exhaust pipe has to pass under the front cross member on both sides of the car.

When I had my Holley on the TV8 the lowest filter was the Mr gasket low rider.
