    radiator expansion tank pipe

Sice i got the car, the pipe between the radiator and the expansion tank has been blocked. (100 psi air line wont budge)

Going to try and rod it out with a length of wire.

Does anyone know how far inside the radiator the pipe goes?

    Cheers,
    James

I suggest you chop it off & replace it with a copper one.It is hard to believe how low these manafacturers will go to save a few quid.I had the same problem on mine

hi if you refer to the metal pipe which is soldered into the top of the rad that connects to the bottle then they often protrude about 25 /55mm below the rad entry .I've removed a few and found this to be the case ,certainly not good for bleeding air out of the system as they are too low im guessing they were not placed that accurately before soldering . I usually remove this pipe and place a new outlet in the top side neck of the rad then this is vented to the header tank,

Cheers for the replies, ive cut the 90 bend off the end and sent a length of garden wire up while in the drill chuck, its free as anything now, i think at some point ill replace it with copper as its only going to block up again at some point.

Set about draining the block while i was at it, removed right drain plug and it was solid, tried picking it out with wire screwdrivers etc but nothing, run it up to get a bit of pressure and warmth, nothing. In the end i got a small drip so pumped the system up to scarily high pressure and kept picking with thick wire and it eventually gushed out!
