    Dilemma !

Hi there, Im trying to decide whether to buy a Stag or a TR6 as a first venture into classic cars. trying to keep an open mind and do my research. I guess you guys may have a biased view but am hoping that you may be able to help me with some basics. How much would I expect to pay for a decent road going stag (ideally Mark 2) that doesnt need any major work doing, but isnt concourse. I am aware on the 'reliability issues' that Stags used to have, so trying to find one that is pretty well sorted. hat chance do I stand of finding a good one privately or am I better going to one of the specialist dealers around (and presumably paying a premium!)? Any comments about long term value would be welcome too. Not looking at this as an investment but not sure how Stags are performing price wise over the longer term. m not fussed about body/trim colours, more about reliability. Of course if I go down the Stag route I'll join the SOC longer term.
    Thanks
    N.

Hi, never driven a TR6 so can't comment on how they drive, TR6 will be more expensive to buy than a Stag in like for like condition. Plenty of specialists about to cover both cars so I would go for a car in better condition body wise than engine. I've had my stag for over 7 years and wouldn't part with it, but I have young children so needed rear seats! Stags are comfortable to drive, good cruisers, not a sports car like the 6, but the Stag makes a better sound

Firstly apologies for posting two almost identical threads - when I thought this hadnt posted, I tweaked it and tried again - hence a second thread called Stag or TR6.

Thanks to Jason for his reply here. Looking at all the answers here and on the other thread the main criterion to decide between Stag and TR6 seems to be the type of use the car is put to. I'll go back to the other thread to include other responses - sorry for any confusion.

The thing is they are two very different cars,as Jason Say's one is,in my opinion a comfortable cruiser and the other is a sports car, maybe it would be better to have a drive of both before making up your mind, Graham

          Hi,

I've not driven a TR6 either, so don't know what they're like in that regard. Personally I prefer the look and sound of the Stag, and the rearseat was a clincher for me anyway.

One advice I would have is join this forum now to learn more about the Stag before taking the plunge. That's one regret I have, it would have made me much more selective and better at looking critically on a potential purchase.

          Good luck!

          Cheers,
          Joakim
