    Kenlow Fans - pro's and con's

Hi all, as title suggests I'm looking for any advice on Kenlow fans. Pro's and con's. Single speed or double speed? Auto or manual. Is it only 14 inch fans that are used? Wise to buy second hand? (if they are available) Thanks in advance. Mark

Got a second hand 16" kenlow to fit, has curved blades and shifts a lot of air but never comes on with a 97 degree switch fitted into a boss on the radiator side wall. I hate the prob under the hose idea which are supplied by kenlow but I'm sure other would disagree.
    cheers Steve

Got a Kenlow on mine (can't remember what size it is). Fitted it when I got the car 3 years ago. It has the probe into the top hose. I used a small amount of instant gasket around the probe and then tightened the jubilee clip. Had no trouble from it...no leaks. I have turned the dial down quite low, so it probably comes on a bit too soon but I have never had even a hint of overheating and it tends to run automatically for a few minutes after switch off, keeping things cool under the bonnet. I still have the standard viscous fan too. (belt and braces )

New style Kenlowes use a dry temp probe that pushes into the rad matrix, and a solid state controller rather than the old capillary thermostat. Much mo betta. The twin speed ones, at least.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I find the Kenlowe controll thing is quite an ugly lump and needs hiding, people ask you 'whats that thing for' then you have to tell them thats its a stag and its just incase it overheats

Having said that mine came with the car and the fan isnt actually wired up (yet), havent had any problems cooling wise so far last year, but will wire it up before this summer for peace of mind.

Hi all thanks for your input - sounds a bit daunting whatever i do! Managed to get through last years hot period with gauge going to about 3/4 in lots of traffic then returning to normal once moving. Got to bite the bullet at some point for piece of mind. Maybe I can just drive with the bonnet open and the heater on? lol Cheers all

For the small cost of it i would change your temp sender (LDParts) then flush your cooling system through and see how it runs then.

Worth checking the fan Viscous coupling, it shouldn't spin more than about 3-4 blades when spun by hand.
