As you say, it is worth what someone will pay.

My car was approx £15k last year but had been nut and bolt restored-albeit a few years previously. It is also pretty original spec with minor common mods such as electronic ignition, s/s exhaust etc. I think its future value is more in the condition than the 'originality' myself.

Whatever-it is worth it to me and I'm not selling!

The car is absolutely beautiful and I am really proud of what I have done to it. It is all painted underneath and the body work is lovely. I did drop the price after some thought because I realised the car was too pricey. Having said that one sold on ebay a couple of months ago for £25K.

I would like to address the points made.

Firstly it is my car and I have recommissioned this car to how I wanted it.

          1. The reason the bonnet catch is on the near side and not the drivers side is quite simply I could not find an early catch so I fitted a later one.
          2. I don't like the MK1 glove box with the light in so I put in a Mk2 which I do like.
          3. The MK1 steering wheel is too thin and too big for my liking.
          4. I fitted the chrome sill covers because I like them.
          5. I fitted the oil pressure gauge in preference to a clock because the oil gauge works.
          6. I fitted the saddle tan interior because I personally think it looks better than the black.
          7. I find the type of seat belts I have fitted is more comfortable for me.
          8. The fuse box cover simply fell off and is now back on.
          9. The parcel shelf was taken off to fit the new carpets and is in my garage waiting to be put back on.
          10. With regards to the power steering filler cap, distributor cap and washer bottle, they were fitted as they came with the car when I purchased it.
          11. The little Leyland badge on the wings simply stick on and I like them.
          12. The blue hood was fitted because it looks a lot better than the black.

It also has a chrome bonnet stay and chrome bonnet blanket brackets which no one has picked up on. No one noticed that I put a new bonnet blanket on ( maybe I should have kept the tatty old one on).

I never once said in the advert that the car was totally original how it came out of the factory.

I did this car up with me in mind and no one else. I had no intention of selling it but I am currently doing a full nut and bolt rebuild on another H Reg Stag and I need the funds.

No prize but you can have a brownie point. That is also in the garage to go on. I obviously took the pictures too early and should have waited till every thing was completely finished!!!
I didn't realise my car would generate such a fuss!!

Ooohh! Come on Harry, do tell, is this a lower commission number that the one that you are selling? Also, we do love photos of a rebuild you know

                Cheers

                  Hi Harry,

Sorry if you have taken offence at my posting. I did add a 'roll eyes' emoticon to indicate it was light hearted and the £3k offer was tongue in cheek.

It is a cracking looking a Stag and I would be proud to own it. But I can't afford it after spending a big wad on restoring mine last year. Good luck with the sale.

I don't think anyone was having a pop at you or the car Harry, it was just a question of a Stag being advertised at top money and people identifying what they would expect for that sort of asking price.

If you get what your asking for it good for you, the more they fetch the better for all of us.

Perhaps I'm a bit guilty-I did use the 'mongrel' comment. Sorry to have offended.

I think myself and others were commenting that although it may be a very early car it appeared to have elements in the photos that did not 'fit with that build date. We may be a suspicious lot-especially with a car priced high I guess all the details have to ring true and consistent. A brief Ebay tagline and some photos clearly raised more questions than answers for well informed viewers on here.

The best way to represent the car is maybe to do as you have-post a bit of its life story here. Building the car up to the spec that you prefer and like makes perfect sense to me. Good luck with your sale.

                      Bruce

BTW Totally agree about the Mk I steering wheel-more or less undriveable for me with long legs. Ditched that PDQ on mine
