Heritage Certificate

Hi All

With 1973 built cars becoming tax free from April 1st, our 1974 registered GT6 falls into the category of needing a heritage to prove its assembly date. I followed the advice given elsewhere on the Forum and paid for a certificate on line using the BMHT website. It mentions on there that due to high demand I would probably have to wait 28 days for the certicate. Well after ordering it Tuesday evening I got home today to find it had arrived. How's that for great service!

If all you need is a heritage certificate, surely that leaves the dishonest to make a fake certificate with a build date in 73 for free tax? They must be other checks surely?
Personally I hope they move the date along another year to include 74!

Can't disagree with that, especially how easy it is now to fake things. But if there were any doubt with an application surely they would contact Gaydon to verify it as it is an archive the DVLA recognize

Found this info posted by Stag member Andy and is on the button :
1. In April, trot down to Post Office with Logbook and MOT
2. Fill in V10
3. Post Office will instantly issue 12 months free road tax
4. Post Office will take log book and new one will be issued (eventually)
5. Complete V14 and return 'paid for' tax disc (assuming it runs beyond March) and you will be reimbursed for the outstanding amount

So it doesn't happen automatically as it did when tax exemption was first introduced.
New technology has brought about the most amazing advances in efficiency except where the letters '.gov.uk' are concerned!

N.B. Heritage certificates only come into their own when required to prove that the car was manufactured prior to the end of 1973 but not registered until 1974 (or later)
