Any recommendation for a block insurance policy for classics?

    Hi All

Our fleet is ageing such that we're now up to 5 cars that are over 15 years old. That leaves just one and that's 11 this year. (Note to myself - need to get a newer daily drive).

Of course it depends in how you define classic but our local car club (East Yorkshire Thoroughbred & Classic) have some events where the minimum is 15. Not that we'd really want to show our Mazda 323F but it does make me think about the insurance of 5 cars over 15 years old. At the moment they've all got their own policy but between us we can't drive more than 2 at once and most of the time only the one.

So I'm wondering whether there's a policy that would cover them all? Has anyone looked into it? I haven't asked an insurance company yet and thought I'd seek others experience first.

    Cheers

    Chris.

Try giving Peter James a call, they offer multi-car policies and know the classic market.

I'm in a similar position except there are more cars in our household. I have a classic policy with KGM at lloyds - via Footman James (I think they have now been taken over). This has four classics on it (Stag, Standard Vanguard, Standard Eight and Austin Healey Sprite) When I tried to add my Land Rover a few years back they said no as it had to be over 25 years old. The Landy was at the time 23 - I did find one company that would insure it as a classic - their limit was 20 years. For all the modern cars Landy (now 29 years old, MX5 (13 years old), Citroen AX (20 years old), and 2 106's (both 13 years old) I use Admiral Multicar. To be honest the first year savings were massive but the last renewal was hardwork. I ended up bartering with them on each car as I could renew - with Admiral on single policies cheaper than the Multicar renewal - They did match their own prices with a small extra discount. Each car still has its own policy and NCB they are just administered under as one with the same renewal date.

In my experience it pays to shop around at every renewal and then get your current insurer to pricematch. The block/multicar policy route sounds good in theory but is a PITA in reality - It took me nearly an hour on the phone when I renewed both policies last time because unless you accept the renewal without changes they have to go through every detail on every policy all in one call. The only advantage is its only once a year.

Never mind a block insurance policy, does anyone do a head insurance policy for Stags?
          The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

I have 4 cars with Peter James, (Stag, PI, 2000 and Herald) all on the one policy and for somewhat less than £100 - for all 4.

While I've not had a claim with them yet, I can't fault them so far.

            Cheers,
            Mike.
Mine since 1987. Finished a 20+ year rebuild in 2012. One of many Triumphs and a 1949 LandRover!

              Guys

Thanks for the input. I've just moved from Adrian Flux who wanted £133 to Peter James who only wanted £87.55. And they've even got unrestricted mileage - not that I'll do that many.

And when the Ford Pop and Land Rover come up I can just add them on.

              Cheers
