An accident in September 2012 changed my tax renewal date and when my car was back on the road it was taxed from the 1st. April 2013. This was rather fortunate as this corresponded with the renewal date for this year being when my car, first registered in August 1973, became classified as historic and free of tax duty. Because of being first registered in August 1973 I did not apply for a Heritage Certificate to prove the build date and thus I was wondering how the tax renewal form from DVLA would treat my car. It arrived this morning and shock horror it requested the usual payment of £225 for renewing the tax from the 1st. April. I went on-line but there was no section where I could obtain a new tax disc free of duty. So I had to phone DVLA and received the following instructions. I had to wait until the 1st. April and take the tax renewal form, V11, together with the car's registration certificate, V5C issue 3/11, to a car tax issuing Post Office. On the certificate V5C go to section 7 and on the last line "Tax Class" fill in "historic". Sign and date the certificate in section 8 and the Post Office will give me a tax fee disc. The certificate V5C does show the date of the first registration.
I know this issue has been raised before but perhaps not this particular aspect.
