Possibly a dumb carb question, but it got me flummoxed!

I'm in the final stages of connecting up my refurbished carbs and following the ROM for the set up. When setting the fast idle, it talks about adjusting both fast idle cams on both carbs, but I can only see the adjustment on the nearside carb.

What am I missing here? I found a previous thread that stated the fast idle adjustment is on the nearside carb, but the ROM says "slacken the fast idle screw locknut on both carbs and adjust so they just touch their respective cams".

Is it dumbness or a typo?

On my original twin Strombergs there is an idle speed screw on each which I try and keep in balance. May be doing it wrong but when adjusting mine I turn the idle screw on one Carb clockwise until the engine speed increases - then back off a quarter turn. Then do exactly the same with the other Carb. Both Strombergs look identical to me. If you had asked me the other week when I was in Chester I could have had a look at yours to see if they the same as mine, but I am back in Tenerife now.

There should be an idle screw on both carbs..sorry I'm not clever enough to find a pic..

There is only one fast idle cam to set up and 2 idle screws. When setting up the fast idle, the ROM has a typo re using a drill or similar to set the gap. Cant remember exactly the dimension, but you need to half it. So if it says use a 5/16" drill, actually use a 5/32".

Thanks for all the replies.

It's as I assumed then Keith, a single cam adjustment, but you surprise me with halving 5/16! Mine needed a tiny adjustment with 5/16 but with 5/32, I'll have to adjust it quite a bit. Are you confident with that measurement?

It is a while since I did mine, but at the time the ROM diameter was way too much. I did a bit of research and other people here said the same, that it must be a typo in the ROM. As to the correct diameter, not sure exactly, but I would start at half the recommended and tweak from there to get the RPM at the stated figure when on full choke.
