New Air Filter Box Fitted - Couple of questions please !

At the National Day in 2013 I met a chap who had a small stall, one of the items was a reconditioned Air Filter Box. I was so tempted to buy on the day but for one reason or another I didn't. Eventually decided to try and track him down and it turned out to be a AM Restorations, phoned them up last week, ordered the part and it arrived today ! This is what my old one looked like, a little tatty and with the cars 40th Anniversary coming up on the 9th April ( Free Car Tax next year ..... ) I decided to treat it.

    This is what arrived

And after about half an hour this is what it looked like

Very pleased with the result but as usual it now starts to make other bits look even tattier ! Maybe its the Cam Rocker covers next ......

Anyway a couple of questions that you might be able to help with.

    1) When fitting I noticed that my seal inside the AirFilter Box had gone hard in places and broken up, whilst looking on the every helpful Rimmers site with diagrams I noticed that it shows 2 plates inside the Air Filter housing that go over the Air ducts into the engine. Mine never seems to have these plates, I assume they just reinforce this area - are they essential and should i try and find a pair ?

    2) I can't seem to find the above seal on the usual trader sites apart from Rimmers and they picture it in 2 bits - has anyone bought this from Rimmers and can comment if it fits well ?

    3) Lastly, As you can see from the pic below the bottom of the old air filter housing box had some form of black sealant or glue where the gaskets sit - Is this normal and what should i use if it is essential

This is the photo that relates to question 3 above - apparently there is a limit of 5 pics per post - didn't realise that !

    Thanks all as always

Mine has fitted these plates, but can't imagine their function. But IRC it's discussed in an earlier thread. Please try a search.

Attachment doesn't work. I fitted the two gaskets under the box without sealant.
