Hi Guys,
Just back last night from a week burbling around Jersey in the Stag. Believe it or not, I've missed you all, but now caught up with your ramblings
. My how busy you've been.
Covered just over 400 miles including the 150-mile round trip to Poole. Bumpy crossing to Jersey last Tuesday, but a smooth return yesterday. Hit the cloudy weather about 5 miles outside Poole, and the rain as we entered Devon
.
Just to touch on a few of your recent posts in one:
Using the Stag for holidays: Excellent. Plenty of space for two of us with our gear. Jersey is a wonderful place to tour in the Stag. Loads of narrow lanes with walls, just right to enjoy the V8 burble
. Glad I had the auto; I reckon my left leg would be twice the size if using a manual gearbox to get around the island. Lots of admiring glances. As we pulled out of the Jersey Zoo carpark, we heard one person say 'what a beauty!'. My wife asked him if he meant the car or her
.
Driveshafts: As you know, I fitted 'Datsun' driveshafts. These have proved to be an excellent buy. Absolutely no sign of 'twitch' at all, even when ascending the hill from Bouley Bay. This is where they hold the hill climb and makes Prescott look like a straight road!
Etiquette: I never saw another Stag, but was waved at by owners of MGBs and a cool-looking blonde womandriving a Healey 3000
. I was told by the guy in the petrol station where I filled up (£1.05p/litre) on Monday that he has a customer with a Stag, but it has a 4-cylinder engine fitted .
Overall the weather was good and warm. Had the top down every day except Sunday, when it chucked it down, monsoon-style, most of the day. I was relieved to find that the soft-top remained water-tight, having replaced the seals above the doors, the door seals and the a-post p-seals with new ones bought at ND. The only water to enter the car did so from the tonneau seal area. I think that either the driver's side drain tube is blocked, or there is a hole in the seal channel. Will check later today. Anyway, the water only got as far as the rear seat well and inner wing.
Only downside, was someone decided that they would like my 3 remaining Triumph logo'ed tyre valve caps as souvenirs. Having lost one at Paignton Classic Car show the previous Sunday I am back to boring plastic caps for now.
