Hi there, I have just bought a Stag that has been laid up for 4 years, I changed the petrol got the pump going and eventually it started, roughly at first but then came "on song" and sounds lovely, however even when engine got up to temp will not run without half choke. I know the car and know when it was put into storeage was running sweetly, any suggestions would be gratefully received, also the car has luminition ignition which with the ballast resistor takes the live feed from the inertia switch so haven't got a working rev counter, how do I wire this in? regards Simon.

I have Luminition and a working tachometer. The Luminition connects to the minus of the coil together with the white/slate lead. To the plus of the coil attach the white/yellow and pink/white leads. You may find another lead which is not connected. Obviously if the Stag has not run for four years your carbs need an overhaul. May be something simple by just adjusting the screw stops but there are many considerations when doing an overhaul. Have you checked the oil in the dashpots and looked at the diaphrams?
