My stag is driveable again after a two and a half year period of non use, due to loss of income and various physical ailments I have not driven it during this time. I couldn't even afford the membership fee for SOC so have been absent for two years but I am back and really pleased that I kept the stag.
After being laid up the rear brakes were stuck tight on the drums and the clutch was also stuck solid. I have in the past managed to sort these kind of problems myself but now I have severe arthritis in my wrists and fingers and have had to find a garage willing and able to sort them for me. The garage that services the family eurohatch didn't want to know and pointed me in the direction of SAS developments in Banbury who have previously worked on other classics incuding stags.
They freed off the brakes, fitted a new clutch kit, fitted new oil seals and gaskets to the gearbox and od, machined out the undersized clutch bearing sleeve supplied by paddocks (it was an extremely tight fit apparently) put the old girl through the mot and what a feeling to have her back on the road again. A really helpful garage all round and nothing was too much trouble. For any stag owner in north Oxfordshire or south Warwickshire who like myself is not up to the physical challenge of carrying out some of the mechanical work on their car SAS is IMHO a good local alternative to some of the more distant specialists who may have long waiting lists and are difficult to access. If anyone wants their contact details pm me as I wouldn't wish anyone to think that I was advertising on behalf of SAS, I am just making a recommendation based on my experiences.
