    Hi Steve

Send off for a heritage certificate. That will include the build date amongst other information specific to your car. Looks highly likely your car will become tax free as of the 1st April

    Regards

    Bruce

Don't think you will need a Heritage Cert. As it was registered on 1/1/74 it had to have been built before that date, so it will automatically qualify. Even the DVLA will recognise that the car could not have been built and registered on New Year's Day.

Sent off my forms today to the DVLA, mine was first reg 9/11/73 so I am hoping for an easy update. Needs to be as I too have a tax disc that runs out March 31st.

Our car was registered on 8/01/74 but qualifies by 175 cars as the first car built in 1974 is LD31153 on the 4TH of January.

I've heard it's going to roll over annually now anyway, so in 5 years all Stags will be tax free, unless some fool adds it to fuel and ruins everything!

If by some complete lack of common sense enough people vote for the labour party at the next 'opportunity' it will I am afraid be a dead cert!

Steve :the documentation I have states in a note ' Where a registration document/certificate indicates that the vehicle was registered up to and including 7 January 1973, we are prepared to allow entry into the Historic Class on the basis that the vehicle would have been constructed the previous year'
Denise: You may just miss out and need some additional documentation.

And on a further note: Back about 1960 one of my teachers brought his Morris Eight on holiday to England, and on his last few days there followed his new Wolsey 1500 through the works, sat in on the test drive, then registered the car and drove it back to Northern Ireland. Built, bought and registered in one day.

Did it make it without breaking down?

We don't see it as being difficult as if it's already official that our car must have been built before the Xmas holiday then they will see common sense, if needs must then the Heritage cert. is cheaper than the tax.
If they update their computers when a later car than ours is granted historic status then one would think it would be greatly simplified for others coming along at a later date. (based on chassis numbers)

I was talking to a Stag owner today and his was registered on 1/1/74, he was talking to DVLA about another matter and asked if he could just register his Stag for historic at a Post Office on the day. They said no, he would have to get proof ??? when he explained that it would have to be built before the 1st, they said he still needed proof That's why they probably work for the Simple Service.

Refer them to to this document, which will presumably be updated on April 1st when the new regulations come into play.

See section, what documents will I require.
